kawah putih, which got its name from the crater's color, is located at Ciwidey, South Bandung. it's a creater of Mount Patuha, one of the twin stratovolcanos in West Java. it's about 2,434m above sea level. Thins place was discovered by a Dutchman name Franz Wilhelm Junghun. at that time, the local villagers believed that this area was haunted as flying birds passing over the lake could fall down and die for no apparent reason. the fact is that the crater is full of sulfur and the birds were poisoned by the sulfuric fumes they inhaled.
the view is very stunning because of the greenish white crater lake which is approximately 8 meters deep. along the entrance track, there are a lot of strawbery, pipeno, and sulfur vendors. but, if you can take some of the sulfur from water yourself. the entrance fee is Rp 10,000 per person.
